The commune is situated in the arrondissement of Villeneuve-sur-Lot and forms part of the communauté de communes des Bastides en Haut-Agenais Périgord.
A little history
In the 13th century, the north-east of the Agenais was a land of woods, a frontier march of the county of Toulouse. Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis, had been comte de Toulouse since 1249 through his marriage to Jeanne de Toulouse, daughter of Raymond VII de Toulouse. He built four bastides to populate the region, Monflanquin in 1256, Castillonnès in 1259, Villeréal in 1267 and Eymet in 1270. On 4 December 1259, Saint Louis signed the treaty of Paris with the King of England Henri III to bring the conflict to an end.
