Le Passage (also known as Le Passage d'Agen) is a commune in the South-West of France, situated in the département of Lot-et-Garonne, in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Situated on the left bank of the Garonne, Le Passage is a commune of the type "Centre urbain intermédiaire", belonging to the suburbs of Agen, and has 9,326 inhabitants as of 2023. It is the fifth largest town in the département and the second largest in the aire d'attraction d'Agen, whose total population stands at 121,539 inhabitants as of 2023.
A little history
Before the Revolution of 1789, Le Passage was made up of two districts. The district of Dolmayrac was recognisable by its église Saint-Joseph, which overlooked the northern bank of the Garonne. The other district of Monbusq, situated further north on lower ground, was a simple crossing point for travellers coming from the north who wished to cross the Garonne via the footbridge or the pont-canal d'Agen. Since the Middle Ages, the hamlet was thus a simple transit point for travellers.
