Its history is notably marked by the development of the railway, which contributed to its industrial and urban growth from the 19th century onwards. Its inhabitants are called the Villeneuvois.
A little history
The history of the commune is known thanks to the work of two local historians. Villeneuve-Saint-Georges has been occupied since the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods at the confluence of the Yerres and the Seine as well as at Triage, as evidenced by archaeological remains. Francis Martin found numerous flints in the 19th century. After the bataille de Melun, Villeneuve was subsequently incorporated into the Roman Empire.
