A little history
The foundations of a first settlement were laid on the left bank of the Aveyron in 1099 by Raymond IV de Saint-Gilles, on the site of metalliferous deposits that had been worked since Antiquity. The only place of worship consisted of an earlier chapel named Saint-Carpil, currently Saint-Jean d'Aigremont, at the top of the hill known today as le Calvaire.
