Olemps (prononcé) is a French commune situated in the centre of the département of Aveyron, in the Occitanie region. Its inhabitants are known as Olempien and Olempienne. The architectural heritage of the commune includes one building protected under the historic monuments legislation, a wayside cross, listed in 1910.
A little history
Before the Revolution, the territory of the commune was part of the parish of Saint-Amans (Rodez), Olemps, la Mouline, Bénéchou, Toizac. After the Revolution, the territory of the present-day commune of Olemps (Olemps, Cassagnettes, Lagarrigue, la Mouline, Malan, Puech-Camp, Cayssiols and Toizac) was part of the mairie of Sainte-Radegonde. The commune of Olemps was created by ordinance of King Louis-Philippe Ier on 3 July 1837, and incorporated La Mouline, Puech-Camp, Toizac, Cassagnettes, Lagarrigue, Malan and Caissiols. Olemps experienced strong expansion around the great railway bridges of the 19th century (particularly la Mouline).
