A little history
The site has been inhabited since the Palaeolithic era. The founding of the village of Vaux dates back to a very distant period, its existence being attested around the year 250 under the consulship of Decius and Gratus, by the legend of saint Nicaise. Accompanied by the priest Quirin and the deacon Scunicule, Nicaise had resolved to bring the evangelical light to the north of Gaul where important cities flourished. It was in a village of the Vexin that the apostle Nicaise began his preachings. Near the village of Vaux, a horrible serpent had made its dwelling in a cave from which sprang a fountain, whose waters, poisoned by this foul neighbour, had become nothing more than a source of infection.
