A little history
In the Gallo-Roman period, Chatou was the seat of a Roman villa, perhaps belonging to a man named Cattus, situated on the edge of a forest. The last Merovingian kings had a royal residence at the abbaye d'Aupec (Le Pecq). An act by Bertefrid, bishop of Amiens, concerning the foundation of the monastery of Corbie was drawn up at the "palais" of Chatou in 663. It was signed, among others, by Saint Renobert, bishop of Bayeux. In 704 Childebert III gave the monks of the abbaye d'Aupec the land of Aupec and its dependencies.
