Maisons-Laffitte (pronounced [mɛzɔ̃ lafit]) is a commune in the département of Yvelines, in the Île-de-France region, in France, situated approximately 7 km to the north-east of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and approximately 18 km to the north-west of Paris. Its inhabitants are called the Mansonniens. Maisons-Laffitte is nicknamed "cité du cheval", owing to its significant equestrian activity.
A little history
"In December 2001, archaeological excavations carried out in the quartier de l'Entrée de Maisons, on the site of the new Résidence Hôtelière, brought to light fragments of Gallo-Roman pottery dating from the 2nd and 3rd centuries. This discovery attests for the first time to the Gallo-Roman origins of Mansionis." The first mention of the village dates from around 820, in the polyptyque d'Irminon. This document, drawn up at the instigation of the abbot Irminon, was intended to record the assets of the abbaye de Saint-Germain-des-Prés, founded in Paris in 543 by Childebert Ier, son of Clovis.
