Valence, the town
Valence covers 13.4 km², lies between 56 and 186 m above sea level and had 5,289 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Valence, or Valence-d'Agen locally, is a French commune situated in the west of the département of Tarn-et-Garonne (82), in the région of Occitanie. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Quercy Blanc, corresponding to the southern part of the Quercy, which owes its name to its Tertiary lacustrine limestones. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the canal latéral à la Garonne, the Garonne, the Barguelonne, the canal de Golfech, the ruisseau du Braguel and two other watercourses.
A little history
Founded in the 13th century by Édouard Ier (King of England), Valence was therefore an English bastide.
