Grisolles is a French commune situated in the south of the département of Tarn-et-Garonne, in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Pays Montalbanais, corresponding to the southern part of Quercy. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the canal latéral à la Garonne, the Garonne, the ruisseau de Pécurié, the ruisseau de Pézoulat, the ruisseau de Saint-Jean and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
Inhabited since Prehistoric times, the territory of Grisolles has had to contend, over the centuries, with numerous invasions. From the end of the 2nd century BC, the Volques Tectosages were subjugated by the Romans. Between the 5th and the 8th century, it was successively occupied by the Franks, the Saracens, the Normans and the Hungarians. In the Middle Ages, Grisolles formed part of the possessions of the abbaye de Saint-Sernin de Toulouse. The name of the village appears for the first time in 844 in a document that lists the 128 village communities dependent on Saint-Sernin.
