Thouarsais-Bouildroux, the town
Thouarsais-Bouildroux covers 17.4 km², lies between 62 and 128 m above sea level and had 1,500 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Thouarsais-Bouildroux is a former French commune situated in the département of Vendée, in the région of Pays de la Loire. On 1st January 2024, the commune merged with Cezais and Saint-Sulpice-en-Pareds to form the new commune of Rives-du-Fougerais.
A little history
Thouarsais-Bouildroux was born from the merger of the two parishes Notre-Dame-de-Thouarsais and Saint-Martin-du-Bouildroux by royal decree on 3rd October 1827. The origin of the name Thouarsais is not really known and it has undergone several variants (Thevrecio, Thouarsayo, Thouarsay). As for Bouildroux (or Boldus or Boildrolio), it is thought to derive from a gaseous spring in a wood of sacred oak trees. The war memorial bears the names of sixty soldiers who died during the First World War.
