A little history
In Antiquity, the territory of the commune was situated away from the main Roman roads of the Rhône valley. The oldest of these, the voie d'Agrippa from Lyon to Arles, passes on the right bank, whilst the compendium linking Lyon to Vienne via the left bank passes further to the east. Although the first religious settlement is attributed to monks from Grigny in the Early Middle Ages, the Rhône marked the barrier at the beginning of the second millennium between the feudal powers of the Forez and the Dauphiné.
