A little history
The site of Sucy-en-Brie, at the break of the plateau de Brie and overlooking the valley of the Marne, has been inhabited since the Neolithic period (fifth and fourth millennia before our era), as was attested by the standing stones that were still visible at the beginning of the 20th century and as was confirmed by archaeological excavations in 2001. The discovery (in 1882) of a Bronze Age deposit confirms human settlement in this period. The first document mentioning Sucy is the charter by which comte Étienne gave, in 811, to the cathedral church of Paris a number of lands including Sucy. This charter already mentions the existence of a church of Saint-Martin.
