An integral part of the former province of Guyenne (north of Gascogne), in the northern part of the Médoc peninsula, the town falls within the boundaries of the Landes de Gascogne, the forêt des Landes, and in the extension of the pointe de Grave. It can be associated with both the Côte d'Argent and the Côte de Beauté, and forms part of the parc naturel régional du Médoc.
A little history
The history of the town of Soulac remains relatively poorly understood before the medieval period. The town was at one time identified with the ancient Noviomagus, mentioned by Ptolémée in his Géographie as one of the two principal settlements of the cité des Bituriges Vivisques, but this hypothesis remains largely contested today.
