Secondigny is a commune in the Centre-Ouest of France situated in the département des Deux-Sèvres, in the région Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
A little history
Secondigny enters history in 1068 when the lord of Parthenay and archbishop of Bordeaux, Joscelin II, granted Raymond, abbot of Bourgueil, the favour of having a church built outside the château, which was already provided with a chapel. The construction of the church began in the last decade of the 11th century. At the edge of the forest, the Augustinian priory of Notre-Dame-des-Bois is said to have been established in the 12th century. From a feudal point of view, the barony of Secondigny was therefore in the hands of the Parthenay, then of their descendants the Orléans-Longueville and the Savoie-Nemours (see the articles on Louis d'Orléans and Philippe de Savoie).
