Saugnac-et-Muret (Saunhac e Lo Muret, in Occitan) - known as Saugnacq-et-Muret until December 2021 - is a commune in the South-West of France situated in the département des Landes, in the région Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
A little history
The commune was created between 1790 and 1794 through the merger of Saugnacq and Muret. The fontaine Saintt-Eutrope du Muret was, as early as the 12th century, a stopping point on the route to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. During the First World War, the commune of Saugnac-et-Muret actively contributed to the war effort. Fifty-nine young people from the commune, representing 10% of its population in 1914, lost their lives during this conflict.
