In his essay Aux origines de Soustons - Esquisse de l'histoire d'un village landais jusqu'à la Révolution, Professor Pierre Traimond highlights the influence of the various invasions of the first millennium, beginning with the Romans. The author covers the period from the Roman invasion to the end of English domination in 1451, placing emphasis on the continuity of agrarian structures, villae romaines, alleux francs and seigneuries-caveries of the coutume de 1300, even though this chronology is disputed.
