A little history
The ancient history of the commune is that of the village of Soorts, with Hossegor originally referring only to the site situated around the lake of the same name. Soorts, mentioned in sources as early as the 11th and 12th centuries, belongs to the Maremne, an ancient Gascon territory constituted in the Middle Ages as a viscountcy. The parish of Soorts, dedicated to Saint André, came under the diocese of Dax. The église Saint-André, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, stood on one of the coastal routes taken by pilgrims on the way to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle.
