A little history
It is in this commune of La Réunion that the "douze mutins" were abandoned in 1646, more precisely at Quartier-Français. This district of Sainte-Suzanne appears to take its name from a war that took place between the English (the "camp Buston", which today has become the district of Saint-André, Cambuston) and the French (hence the Quartier des Français). The town was founded by the first governor of the île Bourbon, Étienne Regnault, at the same time as Saint-Denis, in 1667. At the census of 1710, which covered only the male element, 50 men were recorded in Sainte-Suzanne.
