Endowed with a developed and attractive town centre, Saint-Pierre is often considered the second city of La Réunion after Saint-Denis.
A little history
1854 saw the start of construction work on the port. On 19 June 1882, a railway line connecting the commune to Saint-Louis was delivered. That same year, the port was delivered after almost 30 years of works. In 1965, the town became a sub-prefecture.
