Saint-Pierre-des-Corps is a French town situated in the département of Indre-et-Loire in the région of Centre-Val de Loire, to the east of Tours, with which it shares a border. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Loire, the Cher, the Filet and two small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage composed of two Natura 2000 sites and two natural areas of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
Ancient settlement (Bronze Age) has been identified by archaeologists and, in the Gallo-Roman period, it was on the current boundaries of the commune that the Romans came to cremate their dead. From the Middle Ages onwards, market gardening developed in this arable and silty land, which benefits from a relatively mild climate and whose soils were enriched by the fertile silt of the Loire and the Cher. Market gardening played an important role in the commune until the 20th century. In anticipation of the États généraux of 1789, Me Guépin, curé of St Pierre des Corps, was elected deputy of the clergy.
