Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine [sɛ̃twɛ̃ syʁ sɛn], named Saint-Ouen [sɛ̃twɛ̃] until November 2018, is a French commune situated on the right bank of the Seine in the département of Seine-Saint-Denis in the Île-de-France region. A commune bordering Paris to the north, the town forms part of the métropole du Grand Paris and of the établissement public territorial Plaine Commune. It has been home to the headquarters of the conseil régional d'Île-de-France since 2018.
A little history
Human presence on the site as far back as Prehistory is attested by the discovery of tools dated to the Middle Palaeolithic. The history of the village proper begins in the Merovingian period, during which a royal villa, Clippiacum, was built, where King Dagobert resided. The bishop saint Ouen died there on 24 August 686. The villa then became an important place of pilgrimage and a village quickly grew up around the place of worship.
