Close to Lyon, the site of Saint-Cyr has been inhabited since the earliest periods. During the Gallo-Roman era, the abundance of springs was used to supply water to the thermal baths and the forum baths of Lugdunum. Ruins of the ancient aqueduc des monts d'Or can still be found in the commune. During the Renaissance, the city of Lyon experienced considerable economic expansion.
