Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines is a French commune situated in the département of Yvelines in the Île-de-France region, 14 km south-east of Rambouillet.
A little history
This territory was included in Gaulish times, like the greater part of the Yvelines, in the domain of the tribe of the Carnutes, and depended on the castrum of Hibern (Rochefort) during the Roman occupation. Saint Arnoult, a martyr between Chartres and Paris in the vicinity of the present-day Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines, celebrated locally on 18 July, was buried there around 535 and the tomb subsequently became a place of pilgrimage. Louis XII authorised the creation of a market. François 1er authorised Saint-Arnoult to surround itself with ramparts.
