Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye is a French commune situated in the département of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It has held the Cité de Caractère de Bourgogne Franche-Comté label since 2019. Its inhabitants are called the Saint-Amandois, or the Amandinois.
A little history
Puisaye, also known as Saint-Amand, came under the lords of Puisaye, the sires de Toucy. The heiress Jeanne de Toucy († 1317), daughter of Jean de Toucy and Emma de Laval, passed her estates to her husband Thiébaut II de Bar († 1291), whom she married in 1266. Saint-Amand then fell to their younger son, Erard de Bar († 1335), sire de Pierrepont and d'Ancerville, who was married to Isabelle de Lorraine, and subsequently to the youngest of their children, Henriette de Bar-Pierrepont, who married Henri de Lützelstein (La Petite-Pierre) around 1359.
