Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire ([kon kuʁ syʁ lwaʁ]), often abbreviated to Cosne-sur-Loire ([kon syʁ lwaʁ]), named after the former commune, is a French commune situated in the département of la Nièvre, in the région of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It results from the merger on 1st January 1973 of the communes of Cosne-sur-Loire and Cours.
A little history
The territory of the commune has been populated since Prehistory. In 596, the ruling of saint Aunaire, 18th bishop of Auxerre (572–605), included Cosne (Cône) among the thirty principal parishes of the diocese. The site of Cosne then witnessed several conflicts throughout History, such as the Hundred Years War and the Wars of Religion. Henri V de Lancastre, who was ill, attempted to reach the Burgundian garrison of Cosne, but died of dysentery at Vincennes in 1422.
