Rosny-sur-Seine [ʁonisyʁsɛn] is a French commune situated in the département of Yvelines, in the Île-de-France region, just to the west of Mantes-la-Jolie, the two communes sharing a border. This small town, situated in a bend of the Seine, is historically the pays de Sully. The commune has been twinned with Lustadt (Germany) since April 1981.
A little history
Excavations carried out in the parc de Rosny uncovered medals and coins bearing the likenesses of Constantin, Valérien, Gallien, Philippe II, Antonin le Pieux, Aurélien and Probus, as well as a necropolis from the Gallo-Roman and Carolingian periods containing 145 sarcophagi on the site of the former church. In 848, an ordinance of Charles le Chauve named the parish church of Rosny among the possessions that depended on the abbaye de Fontenelle. In the Middle Ages, Rosny was the chief town of a powerful seigneury with a very important judicial centre where bailiffs, prosecutors, ushers and notaries resided. The lord held the right of high, middle and low justice.
