Rochecorbon (formerly La Roche Corbon) is a French commune in the département of Indre-et-Loire, in the région of Centre-Val de Loire. Its inhabitants are known as the Rochecorbonnais. Exposed to a tempered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Loire, the Cisse and various other small watercourses.
A little history
The history of Rochecorbon is linked to the Loire, which flows through the village. During the 2nd Iron Age (La Tène period), occupation of the communal territory is attested chiefly by the existence of an oppidum. Founded and established at the lieu-dit of Château-Chevrier, this protohistoric settlement, which was then an integral part of the civitas (or city) of the Turones, developed over a total area of 15 or 16 ha. There are no natural caves strictly speaking, as they were all fashioned by human hand.
