Rillieux-la-Pape [ʁijø la pap] is a French commune situated in the métropole de Lyon, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its inhabitants are called les Rilliards. This commune was formed by the merger of two former communes of the Ain, Rillieux and Crépieux-la-Pape, in 1972.
A little history
The communal territory lies a short distance from the ancient city of Lugdunum, known today as Lyon. As such, the Roman road linking the Roman city and Geneva is said to have passed through the commune, following the course of the Rhône, broadly along the hillside, where around 1890, remains were said to still be visible.
