Revin is a French commune situated in the Ardennes department, in the Grand Est region, at the entrance to the pointe de Givet. Its inhabitants are called the Revinois. Revin now forms part of the communauté de communes Ardenne rives de Meuse.
A little history
Traces of Revin in writings dating from Antiquity are rare. However, reference is made to a small town named Ravinium (owing to the town's situation within a ravine) in Latin texts. At the end of Antiquity, the presence of an abbey is mentioned, which was ravaged by the Vikings as they made their way down the course of the Meuse. After the foundation of the abbaye de Prüm by Queen Bertrade in 760, Pépin le Bref donated to this young community a collection of lands including those corresponding, today, to the communes of Revin, Fumay and Fépin.
