Nouzonville, the town
Nouzonville covers 10.9 km², lies between 132 and 361 m above sea level and had 5,523 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Nouzonville is a French commune, situated in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region.
A little history
In 1468, the Liégeois arrived, driven out by the exactions of Charles le Téméraire (the Thomé, Roynette, Barbette, Dehan, Malicet families, and others) and settled at the gates of Nouzon, along a small stream called la Goutelle. Whereas up until the 15th century it had been nothing more than a small village living off fishing, woodland and a little farming, Nouzon became, following the arrival of the newcomers, a centre of metallurgical activity, which would transform the town. The former property of an ironmaster by the name of Robillard was purchased in 1688 by Maximilien Titon and Victor Fournier, who were respectively director of police and receiver of monies for Charleville.
