Sedan is a French commune situated in the département des Ardennes, in the Grand Est region. It is the second most populous commune in the département and forms, alongside Charleville-Mézières and 56 other communes, the communauté d'agglomération Ardenne Métropole with 121,253 inhabitants. A little history
With the aim of preserving and promoting its history, the town of Sedan has a Société d'histoire et d'archéologie du Sedanais, founded on 31 July 1928 under the name Les Amis du Vieux Sedan. A villa, a rural estate, is recorded at this location in 997. In medieval Latin Villa Sedensi, from a probable Sedenna based perhaps on the Gaulish set-, meaning long, and the suffix -enna. Sedan and its neighbouring territories came under the seigneurie de Mouzon and were attached to the kingdom of France by treaty on 16 July 1379.
