Vouziers is a French commune situated in the Ardennes département, in the Grand Est region. A sub-prefecture of its département, it is the chief town of the arrondissement de Vouziers.
A little history
Nothing precise is known about Vouziers before the 12th century. The territory of Vouziers was known in the Middle Ages under the name of Vourc [ Bourcq ], the seat of a viscountcy, where in the 14th century there were two farms called Vouziers which are at the origin of the village. Situated at the crossroads of two roads and at the crossing point of the Aisne, it was a wheat market, also supplied by the mills on the watercourse, of which three or four mills were on the territory of the town. In April 1516, François Ier secured the prosperity of the town by reinstating its fairs and markets, which had been interrupted for a time, in particular as a result of the destruction caused by the Hundred Years War.
