Randan is a French commune situated in the département of Puy-de-Dôme, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
A little history
The Roman road from Vichy to Clermont passes through Randan. Bouillet (1846) notes that a section of it could be seen to the west of Randan above the hamlet of les Carteaux (this hamlet is 2.3 km to the south-west of the village). A monastery, "Monasterium Randanense", existed from the 6th century onwards, occupying the site of the present château. It was a seigneury of the Polignac family in the 15th century. It was elevated to a duchy in the 16th century, then to a duchy-peerage in the 17th century.
