A little history
It was at Pompey that Bishop Euchaire is said to have been massacred along with 2,000 Christians in 362. The site of the martyrdom is said to be the lieu-dit known as the Champ des Tombes, near the chapelle Saint-Euchaire. The Champ des Tombes is, at the junction of ancient thoroughfares, a vast cemetery, a large part of whose burial sites was uncovered during the earthworks carried out for the Nancy to Metz railway line, built between 1849 and 1852. The companions of Saint-Euchaire, as archaeologists of the time described them in religious terms to journalists, took with them into their final resting places weapons, jewellery, amulets, medallions and coins.
