Ploërdut, the town

Ploërdut [ploɛʁdyt] is a French commune situated in the département of Morbihan, in the region of Bretagne. This vast commune formerly had a large population of farmers, but the number of inhabitants was divided by three over the space of one hundred years due to significant rural exodus during the 20th century. A well-preserved village centre and at least 50% of its buildings (houses, calvaries, farm buildings, wells and manor houses) worthy of interest have earned it the label "commune du patrimoine rural".
A little history
Two oval-shaped tumuli are located 600 metres to the west of the village of Kerfandol, on the boundary of the commune of Plouay. The remains of a cairn and the vestiges of a covered walkway (a rectilinear passage approximately 20 metres long and 1.80 metres wide, badly damaged by quarrymen) survive at Lannic. The Roman road "Hent-Ahès" linking the cities of Vorgium and Darioritum crossed the northern part of the territory. A longitudinal cross-section of the road was uncovered near Botcol.
