A little history
Set on fire and pillaged during Viking incursions, severely damaged during the siege by the Spanish, devastated by the Germans in 1870, totally destroyed in 1917 during the First World War, bombed and set on fire in May 1940 by the German air force during the Second World War, Péronne bears two Croix de guerre on its coat of arms. Situated on a hill, almost entirely surrounded by the River Somme and its natural lakes, Péronne very probably existed from the Merovingian period in the form of a castrum protected by a simple wooden palisade.
