Penta-di-Casinca [pɛnta di kazinka] is a French commune situated in the departmental constituency of Haute-Corse and the territory of the collectivité de Corse. It belongs to the former piève de Casinca.
A little history
Penta-di-Casinca is one of the seven communes of the canton de Vescovato, which was known at one point as the pieve de la Casinca. This territory is bounded to the north by the final stretch of the longest river on the island, the Golo, to the west by the mountain range of Sant'Angelo, which reaches its highest point at 1,218 m, to the south by another watercourse, the Fium'Alto, and to the east by the Tyrrhenian Sea. From the 16th century onwards, the entire coastline of the island was raided by the Barbary corsairs. In order to ensure the safety of the population, Gênes put in place a coastal defence system.
