A little history
A former trève of the parish of Assérac, the parish of Pénestin was created in 1767. It is composed of the frairies of the bourg, of l'Armor and of Tréhiguier. Included in the châtellenie d'Assérac, and formerly attached to the sénéchaussée de Guérande (or de Campsillon) until the French Revolution, the commune was created in 1790. Although at that time attached to the bishopric of Nantes, Pénestin, Camoël and Férel were to be included in the département du Morbihan.
