Elle a été créée le 1er janvier 2016 par arrêté préfectoral du 24 décembre 2015, en application de la loi du 16 décembre 2010 de réforme des collectivités territoriales. Elle résulte de la fusion des communes de Parves et de Nattages en une commune nouvelle, dont les conseils municipaux ont sollicité la création, à compter du 1er janvier 2016, par délibérations concordantes du 14 décembre 2015, qui par ailleurs définissent les modalités liées à son fonctionnement.
