Neuville-sur-Saône is a French commune, situated in the métropole de Lyon, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its inhabitants are called the Neuvillois. Formerly named Vimy, it received the name of Neuville when the archbishop Camille de Neufville built a splendid princely residence there in which he received Louis XIV.
A little history
It seems certain that the current location of Neuville was inhabited in prehistoric times. Evidence of this is provided by the polished stone axes that were found in the lands of Neuville, as well as by the eight bone pendants from the Neolithic period belonging to a necklace found in a calcareous pudding stone in 1871 by a 15-year-old boy near the pont de Neuville. There existed at Neuville a settlement of Gauls. It is probable that these inhabitants belonged to the important tribe of the Ségusiaves, made up of farmers who occupied the land and were Romanised following the Roman conquest.
