Nesle [nɛl] (Nèle in Picard) is a French commune, situated in the département de la Somme in the Hauts-de-France region. The town and its surrounding area employ between seven and eight hundred people. With a dense network of associations, the Neslois territory is an active centre of the Santerre plateau in the east of the département.
A little history
Nesle is an ancient Gaulish town that has distinguished itself over the years through its independent chapter, its marquisate and also for the disasters that have afflicted it. The town suffered pillaging, ransacking and the destruction of its fortifications. According to the archaeological research of Duhamel-Decejean, the original town possessed prehistoric underground passages. These places allowed people to live healthily there, the temperature was rather mild and displayed a regularity throughout the four seasons.
