Naucelle, in Occitan Naucèla, is a French commune situated in the département de l'Aveyron, in the région Occitanie. The architectural heritage of the commune includes one building protected under the monuments historiques, the Porte des anglais, listed in 1978. Since 2018, Naucelle has held the label Village Étape.
A little history
Naucelle, Nova Cella (its former name), was created by the monks of the Cistercian abbey of Bonnecombe (Aveyron). They settled as early as the 12th century at Bonnefon, whose grange had influence over the Bas-Ségala for six centuries. The growth of Naucelle was long held back by the proximity of the royal bastide of Sauveterre-de-Rouergue, which concentrated all powers. The arrival of the railway line bypassed Sauveterre-de-Rouergue and established a station two kilometres from the centre of Naucelle at the locality of La Baraque de Merlin, today known as Naucelle-Gare.
