Montlouis-sur-Loire is a French commune situated in the département of Indre-et-Loire near Tours in the région of Centre-Val de Loire. Exposed to a modified oceanic climate, it is drained by the Loire, the Filet and two small watercourses. A little history
A chapel, the Saint-Laurent, was built and served from 461 to 491 by saint Perpet de Tours, bishop of Tours, on a site directly above the hillside protected from the floods of the Loire. Later, the prior-curate was dependent on the abbaye de Bourg-Moyen. It was at Montlouis that the peace between the king of England Henri II and his rebellious sons was signed on 30 September 1174. From the Middle Ages onwards, Montlouis developed thanks to its port on the Loire, a heavily used navigable waterway, and through its wine-growing activity.
