A little history
Traces of human activity, in the form of flint axes, suggest that the territory of the present-day commune of Montesson was occupied in prehistoric times. Written records dating from 1050 and 1144 indicate Montesson, as well as Chatou, as a town, in the sense of villa as understood by the Romans. Chatou and Montesson were properties of the abbeys of Saint-Denis and of Malnoue d'Émerainville, before passing to the secular lord Guillaume Escu-au-Col in 1295. It was during the 12th and 13th centuries that Montesson developed and claimed independence from Chatou.
