A little history
The site of Montdidier has been occupied at least since the Gaulish era. Some historians believed that the town could correspond to the one named Bratuspance, but this hypothesis is no longer accepted today. The history of Montdidier is known to us from the Middle Ages onwards, as no document predating the 9th century mentions Montdidier. The name of the town is said to derive from the fact that in 774, Didier, the king of the Lombards defeated by Charlemagne, and his wife Desiderada, are said to have been held in an estate belonging to the abbaye de Corbie, situated on a rise at the spot where the town later grew up and took the name of Montdidier.
