Migné-Auxances (pronounced [miɲe ozãs]) is a commune in the Centre-West of France situated in the north-western suburbs of Poitiers, in the département of Vienne, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its inhabitants are called Mignanxois.
A little history
A commune of 2,895 hectares, situated on the outskirts of Poitiers, Migné-Auxances (pronounced auzances) is characterised essentially by the valley of the river Auxance (without an "s") and hillsides reaching a peak of 132 metres, the most significant of which form the site of the carrières des Lourdines. A true green corridor, crossing the commune from East to West, the valley of the Auxance constitutes a precious natural heritage. The first traces of human presence on the territory of the commune date back to the period between 300,000 and 150,000 years BC, with the existence of a flint tool knapping workshop of the Acheulean type.
