A little history
Nothing was known about the Gaulish and Gallo-Roman origins of Messimy until recent years. Only etymology was of some assistance, making reference to the estate of a certain Maximilien. The routes of the aqueducts of the Yzeron and the Gier, which supplied Lugdunum, lie on either side of the commune but outside its boundaries. The excavations undertaken in 2015 on the occasion of an extension to the laboratoires Boiron in the Chazeau area to the north-east led to the conclusion that there was uninterrupted human occupation for approximately six centuries.
