Mauron [mɔʁɔ̃] is a French commune, situated in the département of Morbihan in the region of Bretagne. The commune of Mauron is part of Ploërmel Communauté, of the canton of Ploërmel (before the administrative reform of 2014, Mauron was the chief town of the canton of Mauron) and of the arrondissement of Pontivy.
A little history
A ruined dolmen, named les Pierres Gouffier, is situated near la Saudraie. It was moved to Mauron in 1974 (in order to be used to erect a commemorative monument to the Bataille de Mauron) before being returned to its place in the moorland in 1997. A monetary hoard of 180 Coriosolite coins was discovered by chance in 1934. Aerial archaeology reveals a multitude of Gaulish farms that attest to the agricultural richness of the territory, crossed by the Roman road Rennes-Quimper.
