A little history
The region was populated very early, as two prehistoric sites have been discovered, along with traces of Gaulish and Gallo-Roman occupation. The archaeological heritage of the commune is fairly significant, though little known. Indeed, the Allier is very close and, as a result, Maringues enjoys a privileged situation. From the early Middle Ages, the river Allier was a route for circulation between Pont-Picot (a hamlet of Maringues on the banks of the Allier) and the Paris region, as well as between Auvergne and the Atlantic coast.
